The Rwanda Animal Resources Development (RARDA) is an autonomous institution supported by the Government of Rwanda through MINAGRI to achieve its objectives.

The creation of RARDA begun due to the fact that animal production in Rwanda faced several constraints. These constraints are the cause of poor production.

Since production is still low, the country depends heavily on imports of animal products. Indeed, imports are expensive and the vast majority of the population do not have access. This situation contributes to food insecurity, especially since the country can not produce sufficient quantities and it has no surplus production for the market.
